Like all local authorities, roads are a perennial issue. Lack of investment and heavy usage contributes to poor conditioned roads.
Over the last few years, there have been improvements in the approach to road repairs. This has lead to greatly improved roads where they have received attention.
However, Preventative maintenance still seems at times to be woefully inadequate. Minor defects not fixed quickly soon degrade into major defects. There are issues with draining and cleaning in many areas leading to dangerous conditions and defective surfaces.
There are also far too many pavements in rural areas that are covered in soil and plants and overgrown by trees and plants.
